Tottenham Hotspur were held to a 1-1 draw by Brighton & Hove Albion in their Premier League encounter at the Amex Stadium on Tuesday night, writes DEAN WORKMAN.

Spurs came into the game looking to bounce back from their defeat against Manchester City while Brighton were still searching for points to guarantee their safety.

Both sides started the game slowly, but as expected Spurs had the majority of the ball while Brighton looked to be disciplined and not allow their opposition space or time to threaten the goal.

The game had felt like a dead rubber with the home side looking comfortable and the away side not taking the risks needed to take the lead.

Chris Hughton’s men had the first real chance of the game in the 18th minute. After Glen Murray forced a corner, the ball was whipped in and met by Lewis Dunk, but his header went straight to Hugo Lloris in the Tottenham goal.

Minutes before the half-time break Mauricio Potchetino’s men came close to opening the scoring. A short free-kick was played to Harry Kane, but his low shot was well saved by Matt Ryan.

Goalless at the break as both sides struggled to create any chances of note.

After a dour first half, the second half sprung into life. In the 48th minute, a poor back pass was intercepted by Son Heung-min. The South Korean drove to the by-line and skipped past the defender before cutting the ball back to Kane, who made no mistake from close range.

Then straight from the restart Brighton drove forward and were awarded a penalty after Serge Aurier brought down José Izquierdo in the box. The referee pointed to the spot and Pascal Gross stepped up to rifle home the spot kick. After 50 minutes played, the scores were level.

Spurs went in search for a winner, but it was not forthcoming as Brighton held on for a vital point in their fight for survival.
