Spain head coach Luis de la Fuente has warned that his side cannot afford to underestimate Cape Verde in their World Cup Group H opener.
The Spanish side are set to take on Cape Verde when they meet at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium, Atlanta, Georgia.
This is Spain’s 17th appearance at the World Cup, while the small island is making their debut on the world stage.
The Spanish mentor highlighted the quality within the Cape Verde squad, many of whom compete at a high level in Europe, and stressed that Spain will need to produce their best performance to secure a positive result.
“They’re a team with very clear tactical concepts. They build up play very well. They have physically powerful players.
“Many of them play in Europe and are at that competitive level.
“It will be a match that will require us to be at our best to compete.”
