Durban City FC head coach Khalil Ben Youssef praised his side’s character after their performance in the CAF Confederation Cup First Preliminary Round two-legged tie.

The Durban outfit claimed a 2–1 victory over Rukinzo FC in the return leg, securing a 3-1 aggregate win over the Burundi side.

The victory sees Durban City advance to the next round, where they will take on Mauritian outfit AS Port-Louis 2000 in the next round of the competition.

The coach was particularly pleased with the way his players approached the second leg, insisting they never intended to sit back and defend their first-leg advantage.

“It was a good two-leg performance from us. We knew what we had to do after the first leg and the players handled the two games well,” Ben Youssef told his club’s official website.

“We didn’t come here to sit back and protect the first-leg result. We wanted to play, we wanted to score, and we wanted to win the game, and we did that.

“At 2–0 we were in a strong position, but when they scored, we had to stay calm. I thought the players showed good character to manage the game and see it through.”
