The Stormers are reportedly in hot pursuit of a Springbok regular as a replacement for France-bound fullback Warrick Gelant next season.

According to Sunday newspaper Rapport, the Stormers are in talks to bring Bok wing Cheslin Kolbe back to Cape Town from France.

The negotiations over the 28-year-old’s signature are reportedly considered to be at a sensitive stage, given that he only signed a three-year contract to join Toulon from rivals Toulouse last year.

Kolbe began his career with Western Province and the Stormers in 2013 and spent five seasons with his boyhood team before moving to Toulouse in 2017, where he won the Top 14 and European Champions Cup double.

Although the Stormers have already signed Clayton Blommetjies from the Free State Cheetahs, Kolbe is considered the perfect replacement for Gelant, who will be joining Racing 92 next season.

Kolbe’s wages are reportedly not considered to be a major hurdle as, although he won’t be earning the same salary that he does at Toulon, he is a player of national interest.

Although fellow Bok Willie le Roux is building a house in Paarl and looking to settle down in the Western Cape, the Stormers are thought to not be interested in pursuing his services at this time.
