The Blitzboks recorded a comprehensive 38-0 victory over Spain on day two of the Sydney Sevens on Saturday.

South Africa, who had thrashed Papua New Guinea 50-0 on Friday, weren’t at their clinical best in the first half, as they conceded several penalties at the breakdown, which allowed Spain a fair share of possession. But the South Africans’ accuracy in defence kept Spain at bay.

Rosko Specman scored a brace, one from a well-worked set move and the other from a straight run for the line after Kwagga Smith made a turnover, to give the Blitzboks a 14-0 lead at half-time.

The Blitzboks conceded fewer penalties and cut down on the handling errors in the second half and the improved discipline enhanced their precision on attack.

Ruhan Nel and Justin Geduld scuttled over to double South Africa’s try tally. Seabelo Senatla and Dylan Sage then dotted down in the left-hand corner after finding themselves at the end of long passes from Cecil Afrika and Geduld respectively as the Blitzboks finished the game off in style.

South Africa face England in their last pool match at 09:15 (SA time) on Saturday.
