A stunning Luka Modric display guided Croatia to a win over Turkey in the opening Group D fixture.

The midfielder, who capped a great game with a spectacular goal, continued his fine form following on from his Champions League success with Real Madrid.

With Turkey kicking the ball clear following a cross, Modric was on hand to meet the ball on the volley, cracking his effort into the bottom corner. But the goal was just one aspect of the player’s performance, as Modric proved significant in keeping his country ticking in midfield.
