New Orlando Pirates arrival Riyaad Norodien has expressed his determination to avenge his side’s loss in Carling Black Label Champion Cup.

Pirates were convincingly outplayed by Chiefs in the pre-season fixture held at the FNB Stadium on Saturday, but with Pirates under new management, the side are likely to improve as the weeks go by.

‘Coming on when the team is losing is never easy, so automatically my mind was tuned to try and get that equaliser but at the same time I was conscious of the fact that this was my first introduction to the supporters,’ Norodien told the club’s official website.

‘As a player, you want to have the backing of the supporters … the sooner that happens, the easier things become and you also gain more confidence,’ he added.

Nordodien recently arrived at Bucs having signed from Ajax Cape Town in the transfer window. 21-year-old has revealed his excitement at partaking in his first Soweto Derby.

‘The excitement of the derby was great. To hear that deafening roar of our supporters when the team walked to the centre of the pitch to salute the crowd … that moment gave me goosebumps.

‘I told Jackson [Mabokgwane] who was sitting next to me on the bench that I wanted to be the one saluting our fans next time. The derby is unlike any other game, it’s very emotional… emotional on the coaches, players and fans alike.’

The youngster has revealed that following the experience he is eager for more.

‘Now that I got a taste of it, I want more, I will fight to get 90 minutes of game time. I am a champion at heart and although Chiefs may have won the bragging rights this time around, I know revenge will be sweet,’ he concluded.

Orlando Pirates will play their first PSL game on Wednesday, August 24 against Golden Arrows.

The match at the Orlando Stadium kicks off at 19:30.
