Cape Town City and Kaizer Chiefs will go head-to-head in the MTN8 quarter-final at the Cape Town Stadium on Friday.

Eric Tinkler’s side who were formerly known as Mpumalanga Black Aces will be making their first appearance in the MTN8 this season.

The Cape side kicked off their 2016-17 season with a 2-0 win over Polokwane City in an Absa Premiership on Tuesday, through goals by attacking midfielders Bhongolethu Jayiya and Aubrey Ngoma.

The team captain Lebogang Manyama was also in inspiring form for the home side after being introduced as a second-half substitute.

Tinkler, who was pleased with Manyama’s impact and performance on the night and might name the midfielder on his starting line-up on Friday.

The team has been boosted by the availability of goalkeeper Shu-Aib Walters. He missed the midweek game due to suspension.

Tinkler believes that his side will be motivated when they take on a big club like Amakhosi.

Meanwhile, Steve Komphela’s side will be desperate for victory over City on to progress into the semi-finals of the tournament.

Amakhosi are coming off a disappointing defeat against Bidvest Wits at the Bidvest Stadium on Tuesday.

Chiefs defender Lorenzo Gordinho netted a consolation goal for his side as they were beaten 2-1 in their first Absa Premiership match of the new season.

Chiefs’ veteran midfielder Siphiwe Tshabalala, who missed the clash against Wits due to injury, looks likely to feature against City.

Amakhosi will now look to Bernard Parker and George Lebese as the pair have the quality and ability to lead the team to victory.

As the most successful team in tournaments history clinching a record 15 titles and Chiefs are expected to at least reach the final after bowing out in the finals last season.

Komphela, who has never won a major cup as a coach, believes that if his charges follow his game plan they will win and hopefully, stand a good chance of reaching the final.

Kick-off has been set for 20:00.
