Mamelodi Sundowns coach Pitso Mosimane has revealed why veteran midfielder Surprise Moriri is still in contract negotiations with the club.

The 36-year-old was not part of the Sundowns squad that defeated Zamalek 1-0 in their Caf Champions League Group B clash at Lucas Moripe Stadium.

Moriri’s contract with the Brazilians expired at the end of last month, however, the veteran still wants to continue playing despite the tough competition for a starting berth at Chloorkop, according to KickOff.com.

‘Surprise is still negotiating for his contract, he is a legend, we love him. He is 36-years-old, he still wants to contribute. He didn’t have enough game-time with us last season, but you know what, Surprise is a legend,’ Mosimane said.

‘It has to do with finances, also it has to do with game-time and also how long is the contract going to be, how many games he is going to play, how many games played last year, next year, how many he can do,’ explained the Sundowns boss.

Mosimane insists that the club will be signing another midfielder which will make it even harder for Moriri to get regular game time at the Absa Premiership Champions.

‘We have Vila as number 10, Khama still playing as a 10, Tsotso Ngele could not get game time as a number 10, Surprise is a number 10 … it’s difficult. Also, another player is coming in as a number 10 and he is a top player,’ he added.

Over the course of his career, the veteran has made a total of 167 appearances playing for the likes of Platinum Stars and Sundowns, netting 32 goals and assisting a further 11 in all competitions.
