Bidvest Wits midfielder Xola Mlambo says his team showed character to come back and beat Ajax Cape Town 2-1 at Cape Town Stadium on Wednesday.

The 25-year-old claimed the man-of-the-match award for his performance against the Urban Warriors.

Despite a good individual performance, Mlambo shared the credit with the technical staff and his teammates, while adding that their second-half efforts were ‘magnificent’.

‘We have to give thanks to God, we have to give thanks to the technical team and the team as a whole,’ Mlambo said.

‘The effort was magnificent in the second half. It was definitely a tough game, which showed that it was an away game.

‘But we didn’t drop our heads and we kept on going until the last minutes, so we have to be grateful that we received the three points away from home.’

The former Chippa United midfielder believes his side showed character to walk away with all three points after going a goal down in the first half.

‘It showed character from the team, even after we went a goal down, we didn’t drop our heads but we kept on going,’ he added.

Bidvest Wits against Bloemfontein Celtic kicks off at 20:15.
