Santos has confirmed that Portuguese coach Zeca Marques has resigned from his post as head coach of the club with immediate effect.

The 55-year-old expressed his gratitude toward the club owner and his technical team but also reserved special praise for the players and wished them well going forward this season.

‘I have decided to step aside as head coach of Santos FC. This is a joint decision made together with the Chairman of the club Mr Goolam Allie,’ Marques said.

‘We have decided to part way by mutual agreement, this being in the best interest of the club. Notwithstanding my best efforts, unfortunately, results have just not gone our way. It is the correct time to give an opportunity to another coach to run the club.

‘I would like to take this opportunity to thank the chairman and his family for the assistance and advice rendered to me during my time at the club. I also thank the technical team for their hard work and dedication.

‘To the players and to the club in general, I pass on my best wishes for the rest of the season.’

The Peoples Team currently sit second-last at the foot of the National First Division table after winning one out of 14 matches with 11 points.
