Kaizer Chiefs coach Steve Komphela was delighted with Michelle Katsvairo’s performance against Maritzburg United following their 2-0 victory at the FNB Stadium.

The Glamour Boys secured their second consecutive victory in the Absa Premiership after collecting three points against the Team of Choice.

The 49-year-old coach says it was crucial for his side to secure three points as it will motive the team to do better going forward.

‘It’s important to get the three points,’ Komphela told the Kaizer Chiefs website.

‘That’s because you think better, as players, when they are not under any pressure. This will help us towards the future.’

Komphela admits that his side sat a bit deep in their own half as Maritzburg pushed for an early goal early in the second half.

‘Maybe we could have pushed a bit further up the field,’ he added, ‘but I am happy with the win.’

‘Strikers win matches, but your defence wins you championships.’

The Amakhosi coach says he was happy with Michelle Katsvairo’s performance after making his debut against the Team of Choice.

‘Maritzburg played with three centre-backs. Katsvairo ran into the channels quite well and he also allowed the team time to join him up-front. I am happy with his performance,’ the Amakhosi coach said.

Kaizer Chiefs will next play Free State Stars at the Orkney’s James Motlatsi Stadium in the Absa Premiership on Wednesday.

Kick-off has been scheduled for 19:30.
