Bidvest Wits coach Gavin Hunt is set to remain at the club in spite of rumours linking him to the Bafana Bafana job.

With the coach’s contract at Milpark set to reach completion this month, Hunt had been touted as a likely replacement for Shakes Mashaba, whose position as the national team boss has come under scrutiny following a failed 2017 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying campaign.

Safa CEO Dennis Mumble, however, has shut the door on speculation linking Hunt to the post.

‘None of us… Normally I would just say “no comment” but none of us have ever even been in a conversation with Gavin Hunt about becoming a coach in the national set-up,’ Mumble said, reports KickOff.

‘Gavin is under contract and as far as we know Gavin has always been very supportive of our national team structure, and when we call on him for help he provides that not because he wants to become the national team coach – we’ve never interpreted it that way.

‘He was on a technical committee before so I don’t know where the Gavin Hunt story comes from, but let me debunk that because if anybody is going to make contact with the coach it will be me, and I have not made contact with the coach.’

Hunt, for his part, says he is set to continue in his current job at The Clever Boys.

‘Ja, ja… I’m staying at the club. We’ve discussed the future and I’ll continue until the club feels otherwise,’ Hunt has said.
