Kaizer Chiefs cruised to a 2-0 win against Free State Stars to secure their third consecutive PSL win.

Willard Katsande opened the scoring in the 10th minute from the penalty spot after Khumalo was fouled by Okumo.

The goal allowed Chiefs to settle into a good rhythm as Free State Stars did their best to level matters. Lorenzo Gordinho and Ramahlwe Mphahlele dealt with any and all threats from the home side as Steve Komphela’s men looked to put their early season woes behind them.

In the 39th minute, Goodman Dlamini forced a good save from Itumeleng Khune before Gordinho missed out on doubling his side’s lead in first half injury time as he connected with George Lebese’s free kick but failed to guide his effort on target.

Sekotlong got his side off to a good but goalless start to the second half when he fired into the side netting with just two minutes played as Stars attempted to find a way back into the contest.

Eric Mathoho was next to shoot wide for Chiefs as his 58th minute header failed to test the goalkeeper after a good cross by George Maluleka.

Michelle Katsvairo made it two nil after some fine play by Mphahlele and Lebese. The defender passed the ball firmly to Lebese who with one touch played in Katsvairo out wide, who fired home at the near post in the 64th minute.

Despite the match opening up, neither side could muster a meaningful effort on target as Chiefs went top of the table after their third consecutive win and also their third consecutive clean sheet.

For Stars, the loss heaps more misery on the side as they fail to find the net for their fourth match on the trot.
