Quwan Plaatjies made history by becoming the first player to score a hat-trick on his PSL debut in Stellenbosch FC’s 3-1 victory over Marumo Gallants in the Betway Premiership.

The 20-year-old forward scored all three goals at Athlone Stadium to hand the Maroons the win and all three points.

The former academy product was handed his first start by coach Gavin Hunt and repaid his manager’s faith with a Man-of-the-Match performance.

Plaatjies opened the scoring in the 13th minute with a composed finish into the bottom corner.

He netted his brace just before the half-hour mark when he rose the highest to head home Raoul Daniels’ cross before he completed his hat-trick in the second-half with another headed goal.

His Man of the Match-winning performance lasted 66 minutes before he was taken off and substituted for Qobolwakhe Sibande.
