Kaizer Chiefs defender Siyanda Xulu’s father has claimed the player made the move to the Amakhosi so he could earn a call-up for Bafana Bafana.

Things have not gone according to plan for the 24-year-old and he has now been transfer listed by the Glamour Boys following an injury-plagued season.

The player signed a contract with Chiefs as recently as last year having been brought in to replace captain Tefu Mashamaite.

‘It was one of the reasons why he returned to the country because at Bafana Bafana they call players who are active and playing week in, week out,’ the player’s father told KickOff.

‘But when he was stuck in Europe it was difficult for him to return to Bafana Bafana, so from my side he needs to continue working hard and there is not any other way because he was signed by the club and it is work.’

Xulu managed nine appearances for Chiefs this season.
