Indian captain Virat Kohli has become the second fastest Indian to 6,000 Test runs.

Batting for India in their first innings against England at the Ageas Bowl in Southampton, Kohli drove at a wide ball from Jimmy Anderson but succeeded only in getting a thick-edge low and wide of the slips. The ball ran away for four to move the Indian master batsman onto nine runs off 11 balls in the innings, as well as taking him past 6,000 Test runs in his 70th Test match.

Indian legend Sunil Gavaskar accomplished the feat in his 65th Test, while Sachin Tendulkar only passed 6,000 Test runs in his 76 Test.

With that four India’s score moved to 72-2, with Kohli and Cheteshwar Pujara looking in a commanding position, after restricting England to 246 all out in their first innings.

India went to lunch at 100-2 after 31 overs, with Pujara 28 not out and Kohli 25 not out.

England currently leads the five-Test series 2-1.
