Rajasthan Royals returned to the top of the Indian Premier League table after Yashasvi Jaiswal inspired them to a win over Chennai Super Kings on Thursday.

The pink team had an impressive score of 202-5 after Jaiswal hit 77 runs off 43 balls. However, Chennai fell short by 32 runs in Jaipur because Adam Zampa and Ravichandran Ashwin took five wickets between them.

Jaiswal got Rajasthan off to a great start by hitting three fours in the first over and 18 runs in the third. He and Jos Buttler put up 64 runs in the first three overs, which is called the “powerplay.”

“I am enjoying playing with Jos Buttler. There is no secret really. I love playing proper cricket shots and keeping the tempo high,” Jaiswal said afterwards.

Buttler was out to Ravindra Jadeja for 27 off 21 balls, which was slow for the England captain. Before that, Royals captain Sanju Samson was out for 17.

But Jaiswal kept going strong. It took him 26 balls to get to 50, and he hit four sixes and eight fours. He kept going until he was out for 77, which was Tushar Deshpande’s second wicket of the night.

Shimron Hetmyer was out quickly for eight, but Dhruv Jurel (34) and Devdutt Padikkal (27) used luck to get Rajasthan over the 200-run mark for the first time at their home ground.

Even though Ruturaj Gaikwad lost his partner Devon Conway early on, he helped Chennai get off to a fast start. He hit 47 runs off 29 balls as Chennai scored 42 runs in the powerplay.

But the spinners for Rajasthan kept things in check. Zampa took 3-22, including the wickets of Conway and Gaikwad, who hit a top-edged shot to long-on for 47.

Ashwin then got two wickets in three balls. Both Ajinkya Rahane (15) and Ambati Rayudu (out for a duck after two balls) holed out on the boundary.

Shivam Dube kept Chennai in the game by scoring 52 runs off 33 balls and hitting four sixes. This was his third half-century in four games, but wickets fell at the other end, including Moeen Ali, who was out for 23 after being out to Zampa.

“I think it was the first six overs that took the game away from us,” Chennai skipper Dhoni said.
