Bidvest Wits have confirmed the signing of Scottish forward Simon Murray in a deal believed to be worth £150,000 (R2.6-million).

The 26-year-old forward joins the Clever Boys on a four-year deal and will be looking to hit the ground running with Gavin Hunt’s side.

Murray, who scored 17 goals last season for Hibernian and Dundee in Scotland, was unveiled as a Wits player on Monday and he will occupy the foreign spot that was vacated by James Keene when he left for SuperSport United.

The forward’s agent, Ryan Hartslief of Bigtime Sports Management, has revealed his confidence that his client will continue to show his goal-scoring prowess in the Absa Premiership, while also noting that the move could open doors for more Scottish players and coaches to head to South Africa.

‘Simon will be a credit to the club and to the league. He has proven to be a regular goal-scorer of 15 to 20 goals each season and is following in the footsteps of his father, who also played professionally for Hibs.
