TFGSoccerClub editor Wade Pretorius tests his Premier League knowledge against former Arsenal star turned Sky Sports analyst Paul Merson.
UPDATE: It wasn’t a successful weekend for Merson, who managed just one correct score and four correct match results in total. The Sky Sports pundit’s final tally of six was no match for our expert who, despite only one correct score prediction, ended with 11 points after securing six correct match results to add three bonus points to his tally.
Merson made 21 appearances for England adding three goals in a career which saw him play predominately for Arsenal but with stints at Middlesbrough and Aston Villa. The winger played professional football for 17 years and ended his playing days with over 560 club caps to his credit.
In 2008, Arsenal named Merson as their 26th greatest player.
‘It wouldn’t surprise me if Claudio Ranieri rested his stars again with Copenhagen to come in the Champions League. That’s the priority now and if they can get a result in Denmark, qualification is done and dusted,’ writes Merson in his Sky Sports column.
‘It’s an interesting game for Tottenham because they’re coming off a draw against Bournemouth, and if they drop points on Saturday, their next league game is away at Arsenal after a Champions League tie. It’s potentially a tricky little run so it makes beating Leicester quite important.
‘I expect them to do it with Ranieri naming a similar team to the one that lost to Chelsea.’
