Bafana Bafana advanced to the Africa Cup of Nations last 16 following their thrilling 3-2 victory over Zimbabwe at the Stade de Marrakech in Marrakech.
South Africa got off to a bright start and dominated the opening exchanges of the game in Marrakech.
Bafana broke the deadlock in the sixth minute when Tshepang Moremi’s strike found the back of the net after it took a deflection.
Zimbabwe drew the game level in the 18th minute when Tawanda Maswanhise’s powerful strike beat Ronwen Williams to find the back of the net.
Neither side could take the lead in the first half, as the game went into the break locked at 1-1.
South Africa came out guns blazing in the second-half and restored their lead in the 49th minute when Lyle Foster beat Washington Arubi to head the ball into an empty net.
Zimbabwe managed to level matters in the 73rd minute when Aubrey Modiba unknowingly put the ball into his own net after Williams’ save was deflected off him.
Bafana restored their lead for the second time in the 81st minute when Oswin Appollis slotted the ball home from the spot-kick after they were awarded a penalty for a handball inside the area.
Hugo Broos’ men held on to their lead until the final whistle to walk away with the win and secure their progression to the round of 16.
