An emotional Andy Murray announced that he will retire from tennis in 2019.

The Scot had surgery on his right hip last January and has played 14 matches since returning to the sport last June. However, he is still struggling to deal with the pain, and admitted on Friday that the upcoming Australian Open could be the last tournament of his career.

In 2016, Murray became the first British singles player to be officially ranked world No 1, a position he held for 41 weeks.

He won three Grand Slam titles and reached 11 Grand Slam finals, also winning 45 singles titles in his career.
