Jesse Lingard wins Manchester United’s Goal of the Month for May following his stunning volley during the Red Devils FA Cup triumph over Crystal Palace at Wembley Stadium.

Jason Puncheon fired Palace into the lead late in the second half but the advantage didn’t last long when Juan Mata equalised just two minutes later.

Lingard score the all but decisive goal when his first-time volley travelled into the top corner to hand United the victory.

The United midfielder was a landslide victor in ManUtd.com’s poll, picking up 76 per cent of the votes. Anthony Martial v West Ham United (8 per cent) and Wayne Rooney v Bournemouth (6 per cent) completed the top three.

The 23-year-old insisted that as a substitute you always have to be ready and is grateful that he was in the right place at the right time.

‘It fell nicely for me to hit; I knew I had to catch it right and luckily I did,’ Lingard said.

‘As a substitute you’ve always got to be ready and thankfully I was,’ he added.

United went on to win the match 2-1 in extra-time clinching their 12th FA Cup title, a record shared with Arsenal.
