Serena Williams is on course to win her eighth Wimbledon title after coming from a set down to defeat Camila Giorgi to reach her 11th semi-final at SW19.

Williams started the first set with relative ease, holding to love twice while Giorgi had to save a break point in the first game and work hard to win her first three service games.

But in the fifth game, the Italian went off script and broke her opponent to take take a 4-2 lead. Williams had four chances to grab a break back in the following game, but Giorgi saved all of them to take a 5-2 lead. The seven-time Wimbledon champion could not find the break she needed, and Giorgi took the first set 6-3.

A refocused Williams picked up her intensity in the second set and got the crucial break in the fourth game to take a 3-1 lead. She did not concede a single break point to level the match with a 6-3 scoreline.

There was only one break point in the third set, and it belonged to the 23-time Grand Slam winner, who took it with both hands. The rest of the set was filled with love-holds from both women as Williams booked her spot in the Wimbledon semi-finals with a 3-6, 6-3, 6-4 victory.

Williams will face Julia Gorges in that semi-final after the German defeated Kiki Bertens 3-6, 7-5, 6-1.

In Tuesday’s other quarter-finals, Angelique Kerber defeated Daria Kasatkina 6-3, 7-5 to set up a semi-final clash against Jelena Ostapenko, who defeated Dominika Cibulkova 7-5, 6-4.
