South Africa’s Kevin Anderson will look to defeat Frenchman Jeremy Chardy for the second time in a couple of weeks to advance to the third round of the US Open.

Anderson overcame Chardy 7-6 (6), 6-2 at the Cincinnati Open to take a 2-1 lead in their head-to-head record.

He would want to improve that record when the two face each other in the second round of the US Open on Wednesday.

Anderson advanced after a five-set victory over Ryan Harrison, while Chardy overcame Andrey Rublev in four sets.

The fifth-seeded Anderson will be the odds-on favourite to advance against the World No 46, but he won’t take anything for granted against an opponent that has gotten the better of him before.

The match is scheduled to start at 8:15pm (SA time) on Wednesday.
