Mamelodi Sundowns duo Denis Onyango and Themba Zwane have been nominated for the newly named 2019 Caf African Interclubs Player of the Year award.

The Brazilians managed to finish in the semi-finals of the Caf Champions League last season, but Zwane and Onyango were instrumental in helping Sundowns secure a record-ninth Absa Premiership title.

The Sundowns goalkeeper made the list of nominees after his impressive performance for Masandawana, during which he kept 8 clean sheets from 28 appearances in all competitions since last season.

Meanwhile, teammate Zwane was one of Sundowns’ standout performers, having scored 15 goals and assisted a further 13 from 51 appearances since the start of the 2018-19 campaign.

Joining the Sundowns duo on the list are one player from Al Ahly, four from Esperance, two from Simba, three from Zamalek, one from Petro de Luanda, two from Wydad Casablanca, one from AS VITA, one from player from Al Ain, two from TP Mazembe, and one from Ahli Jeddah.
