Maema says he wants to show the world the type of football Sundowns play, and they will be given the opportunity on a global stage.
“We’ve won eight [league] titles on the spin. Sadly, we came up short in the CAF Champions League final, but we’re really eager to embark on this new adventure,” Maema said.
“The Sky is the Limit is about always dreaming big and carrying that spirit onto the pitch with us. It means we’re always striving to be the best we possibly can be.
“People refer to us as Shoe and Piano: a way of saying that our style of play is inspired by the Brazilians, in the sense that we like to play attractive football that excites the fans and makes us entertaining to watch.
“We want everyone to see that here in the United States as well,” attacking midfielder Neo Maema told FIFA ahead of his side’s opener against Ulsan.
Mamelodi Sundowns vs Ulsan kicks off at 00:00 on Wednesday morning.
