The Brazilians thought they took the lead in the 28th minute when Iqraam Rayners fired the ball into the back of the net from close range, but after VAR intervened, the goal was disallowed for a handball offence before the goal.
Rayners did eventually put the ball into the back of the net eight minutes later when he calmly slotted the ball into the bottom corner to make it 1-0.
The Sundowns striker once again found the back of the net in the 39th minute, but the offside flag denied him.
Rayners should have had a hat-trick but ended the game with one goal as Sundowns secured a 1-0 win over Ulsan in their opening FIFA Club World Cup Group F encounter.
