Mamelodi Sundowns forward Percy Tau is the only South African representative on the 30-man African Player of the Year award list.

Tau is joined on the list by club teammate and Ugandan shot-stopper, Denis Onyango.

Caf published the nominees on their official website on Wednesday afternoon, with the award ceremony set to take place on Thursday 4 January 2018 in Accra, Ghana.

The winner will be decided by votes from coaches and technical directors of the countries who have an affiliation with Caf, members of the Caf technical and development committee, and a panel of media experts.

The Sundowns duo will have their work cut out for them as they go up against the likes of Eric Bailly, Mohamed Salah and Victor Moses, to name a few.

The nominees for the African Player of the Year – Based in Africa, were also released by Caf, with SuperSport United duo Jeremy Brockie and Dean Furman getting nominations, along with Tau and Onyango.

Onyango is the reigning African Player of the Year – Based in Africa.
