Stellenbosch FC coach Steve Barker says his side is pushing hard to finish high up on the Betway Premiership table.

The Maroons secured their third successive victory in the Betway Premiership following their 3-0 over Golden Arrows in Hammarsdale.

Devon Titus opened the scoring for the Stellies in the 14th minute but Lesiba Nku doubled their lead in the 70th minute before Thabo Moloisane put the game beyond Arrows two minutes later to solidify the victory for the away side.

Barker’s men now find themselves sitting in fourth place on the table with 44 points, having won 12 games, drawn eight and conceded five defeats in 25 matches.

Stellies will now turn their attention to their upcoming league encounter against Mamelodi Sundowns when the two sides meet at the Lucas Moripe Stadium on Sunday.

“I was very pleased with the performance and the result,” Barker told his club’s official website.

“We are trying to push to finish as high up the table as we can so this was a big game for us and an important one to win away from home.

“We controlled the majority of the game, and I thought there were moments that we played very well. We knew that Arrows are a difficult team, with some good, tricky wingers that play inside as 10s, and tactically, we had to be aware of that.

“I think in the second half, when we scored a set-piece goal and then followed it up shortly afterward with another set-piece goal, it took the wind out of them a bit, and we were able to see out the game.

“It was a mature, professional, and accomplished performance. When you are winning 3-0, it’s important that you also look to keep your clean sheet and we pride ourselves on that, so it was good not to concede as well.”
