Kaizer Chiefs’ nine-game unbeaten run in the Absa Premiership came to an end after they suffered a 2-1 defeat to SuperSport United at the Mbombela Stadium on Saturday, writes DYLAN APPOLIS.

Amakhosi came into this game with lout star man Khama Billiat, while the likes of Philani Zulu, Reeve Frosler and Bernard Parker were handed starts.

Chiefs got off to a good start and should’ve taken the lead early on but Leonardo Castro guided his header over the target from close range.

However, it’s was SuperSport who found the back of the net in the 10th minute when Bradley Grobler found space at the back post to head home a cross from Teboho Mokoena.

Daniel Akpeyi came to his sides rescue in the 24th minute when Dean Furman forced him into making a superb save to deny the United midfielder.

Samir Nurkovic should have levelled matters moments later but the Chiefs striker rattled the woodwork.

SuperSport managed to hold onto their lead over Amakhosi as the game went into the half-time break.

Amakhosi were then awarded a penalty early in the second half. Daniel Cardoso stepped up and made no mistake from the spot-kick.

SuperSport restores their lead in the 61st minute after Thamsanqa Gabuza slotted home a cross from Kudakwashe Mahachi.

Chiefs almost equalised for the second time in the game after 70 minutes when Nurkovic’s acrobatic strike hit Castro in the face before crashing off the upright.

Ronwen Williams came to his sides rescue eight minutes later when he produced a fine save to keep out Dumisani Zumba’s effort from distance.

United had a golden opportunity to bag their third goal with six minutes left to play but Lungu blazed his effort over the target.

The home sides held on to their lead over Chiefs until the final whistle to claim all three points on home soil.
