Egypt captain Mohamed Salah hailed his side’s latest World Cup triumph as the greatest achievement in the nation’s football history, describing the landmark victory as a moment that will be remembered by generations of Egyptians.

The Egyptians made history on the world stage after claiming their first-ever win at the World Cup when they beat New Zealand 3-1 at the BC Place in Vancouver.

The Egypt captain got his name on the scoresheet to score his first goal at the World Cup to guide his side to victory.

Salah praised both the players and coaching staff for their efforts and expressed confidence that Egypt can continue making history by topping their group and advancing further in the tournament.

“Well, it’s incredible, I don’t know how to express it with words. It’s a great achievement for all the players and the staff,” Salah told FIFA.

“Hopefully, we can carry on like this in the group, and we can write the history and qualify first.

“What happened today is history for us as Egyptians. We see a lot of teams win games, but for us as Egyptians, it doesn’t happen often, first time in history.

“In the years to come, you will remember that as well, the best achievement in history, so we just have to enjoy today, enjoy tomorrow, then focus on the game after.”
