Bafana Bafana midfielder Teboho Mokoena insists the pressure will be firmly on hosts Mexico when the two nations meet in their FIFA World Cup opener, with South Africa embracing their underdog status.
South Africa will take on El Tri when they meet at the iconic Estadio Azteca, Mexico City.
Hugo Broos’ men are preparing for their first appearances at the World Cup for the first time in 16 years.
Mokoena says the squad is focused on its own preparations and is confident in the work done ahead of the tournament as they eagerly await the showdown at the Estadio Azteca.
“As I said, even the probability is saying seven percent chances of going to the next round or even winning the opening game,” said Mokoena.
“So, we don’t have pressure. The pressure is on Mexico as the host,” Mokoena told the media.
“For us as a team, we know what is expected of us, and we know how much we prepared for this game and for this tournament.
“Of course, we’re just looking forward to the game against Mexico.”
