Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder Teboho Mokoena has opened up about the personal challenges he has endured over the past two weeks, despite celebrating MTN8 glory with the Brazilians.

Mokoena scored the opening goal for Sundowns to help them secure a 2-0 win over Orlando Pirates and secure the MTN8 title.

The 25-year-old has since revealed that he lost his grandfather and that his brother was stabbed multiple times on the eve of Bafana Bafana’s match against Guinea.

Despite the personal trauma, Mokoena continued to represent his club and country and dedicated the victory to his brother, who remains in hospital as he hopes for his recovery and justice to be served.

“It’s been tough two weeks for me, I lost my grandfather two weeks ago,” Mokoena told SuperSport TV.

“I almost lost my brother who got stabbed the day before we played Guinea. They stabbed him multiple times, it’s been tough, but I’d like to dedicate this game to him, he is in the hospital bed. I hope justice will be served,

“I’m happy that we won but inside I’m not really okay because it’s sad what happened to my family. You always have to show up, it doesn’t matter how you’re feeling. I dedicate this game to him, my brother and I hope he recovers.”
