Liverpool forward Diogo Jota has tragically passed away following a car accident in Spain.

This tragic event happened just 10 days after he married his fiancée, Rute Cardoso.

It has been reported that the Portuguese forward had been travelling in a vehicle with his brother Andre, who also passed away, according to Marca.

The vehicle was said to have come off the road, crashed and then burst into flames in the province of Zamora.

The 28-year-old joined Liverpool from Wolves during the 2020/21 season and went on to score 65 goals and register 26 assists in 182 appearances across all competitions.

During his time with the Reds, Jota won two trophies, which include the Premier League title and the FA Cup trophy.

“Liverpool Football Club are devastated by the tragic passing of Diogo Jota,” Liverpool said in a statement.

“The club have been informed the 28-year-old has passed away following a road traffic accident in Spain along with his brother, Andre.

“Liverpool FC will be making no further comment at this time and request the privacy of Diogo and Andre’s family, friends, teammates and club staff is respected as they try to come to terms with an unimaginable loss.”
