Kaizer Chiefs have been dealt a major injury blow with coach Ernst Middendorp confirming that goalkeeper Itumeleng Khune will miss the remainder of the 2018-19 campaign due to injury.

The Soweto giants marked their first encounter in 2019 with a 2-1 loss to fellow rivals Mamelodi Sundowns at a packed FNB Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

Middendorp suffered his first defear at the helm of Amakhosi, with the winner being scored by Lebohang Maboe following a terrible mistake by deputy goalkeeper Virgil Vries.

Khune missed Chiefs’ first-leg Caf Confederation Cup clash against Elgeco Plus, as well as the 1-0 victory against SuperSport United in the Absa Premiership.

In the aftermath of the loss to Masandawana, the German tactician confirmed that the Bafana No 1 will play no further part in the remainder of the campaign due to a shoulder injury.
