Kaizer Chiefs reclaimed second place in the DStv Premiership following their 2-0 victory over Sekhukhune United at the FNB Stadium on Sunday evening.

Amakhosi were forced to make wholesale changes to their squad as Njabulo Blom, Nkosingiphile Ngcobo, Leonardo Castro, Siyabonga Ngezana, Thabani Dube and Siphosakhe Ntiya-Ntiya were named his the squad, while Keagan Dolly and Khama Billiat were dropped from the squad due to the recent Covid-19 outbreak in the Chiefs camp.

Chiefs produced their first chance of the game as Reeve Frosler sent an inviting ball into the path of Daniel Cardoso, who was unable able to find the target as his volley sailed over the crossbar.

Sekhukhune had a chance of their own when Talent Chawapiwa played Thabo Rakhale through on goal before the skilful midfielder forced Daniel Akpeyi into making a full stretched save to tip his effort around the bar.

Amakhosi eventually took the lead in the 25th minute when Nkosingiphile Ngcobo found space before beating his marker and unleashing a powerful strike to find the bottom corner to make it 1-0.

Babina Noko had a chance to level matters on the stroke of half time but Sello Motsepe headed his effort over the crossbar after he was played through on goal by Nyiko Mobbie.

Chiefs had a chance to double their lead early in the second half but Castro, who rose the highest headed his effort wide of the target.

Toaster Nsabata was called into action in the 70th minute when he produced a fine save to deny Ngcobo’s effort which was destined to find the left-hand corner.

However, Amakhosi put the game to bed in the 85th minute when Sekgota made a great interception to play the ball into the path of Nkosingiphile Ngcobo, who played Phathutshedzo Nange through on goal at the back post before he simply tapped the ball into the back of the net as Amakhosi walked away with all three points.
