Kaizer Chiefs secured their fifth consecutive victory over rivals Orlando Pirates in the DStv Premiership following their 1-0 win in a thrilling Soweto derby clash at the FNB Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

The Buccaneers enjoy more of possession in the early stages of the game but it was Chiefs, who looked the more threatening side in the opening minutes of the match.

Ashley Du Preez had a chance to hand Amakhosi the lead in the 25th minute but the striker saw his low shot parried away by Pirates keeper Sipho Chaine.

Pirates came close to breaking the deadlock in the 39th minute after Thembinkosi Lorch unleashed an effort from range only for his effort to be saved by Amakhosi keeper Brandon Petersen’s finger-tip.

Neither side were able to take the lead as the game went into the half time break locked at goalless.

The Buccaneers had the first chance of the second half but Lorch was unable to keep his volley from range on target in the 51st minute.

The Sea Robbers were then reduced to 10 men on the hour mark as captain Innocent Maela was shown a straight red card after tripping Salie just outside the penalty area.

Pirates responded by making their first two substitutions of the game as Olisa Ndah and Ben Motshwari came on to replace Thembinkosi Lorch and Ndabayithethwa Ndlondlo, respectively.

Amakhosi made a substitution of their own in the 78th minute as Caleb Bimenyimana, who nearly made an instant impact but saw his header sail just wide of goal.

Du Preez should have put the game to bed for Amakhosi in the 86th minute when he latched on to a loose ball inside the box to volley the ball towards the goal but his strike flashed over the crossbar.

Amakhosi did eventually manage to take the lead when Ndah put the ball into his own net to hand Chiefs all three points and the bragging rights in the Soweto derby.
