Bafana Bafana head coach Hugo Broos believes South Africa can still secure a place in the FIFA World Cup knockout stages after their spirited display against Czechia.

South Africa keep their World cup hopes alive after claiming a 1-1 draw against Czechia in their second Group A fixture.

After falling behind to an early Czechia goal in the fifth minute, Bafana Bafana battled their way back into the contest, with Teboho Mokoena’s composed penalty eight minutes from time earning South Africa a hard-fought 1-1 draw.

South Africa’s FIFA World Cup fate will be decided in their final Group A encounter against Korea Republic at Estadio BBVA in Guadalupe on 25 June 2026, with a place in the knockout stages still within reach.

Broos insists the display reflected the true identity of the national team as they continue their push for a place in the World Cup knockout stages.

“If we can make another performance like today, I think we have a chance to go in the second round,” added Broos.

“I’m very proud of my team, and this is the real Bafana Bafana.”
