Bafana Bafana head coach Hugo Broos is confident his team is ready to take on Mexico in the opening match of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

South Africa will begin their World Cup journey against Mexico when they meet at the iconic Estadio Azteca, Mexico City.

This will be South Africa’s first appearance at the World Cup since hosting the tournament in 2010.

The Belgian mentor believes South Africa will need to produce their best performance and enjoy a slice of fortune if they are to secure a positive result at the iconic Estadio Azteca.

“For us it will be a very tough game. We need to be at our best level, and we also need a little bit of luck,” said Broos.

“But I can assure you that my team is ready and we will fight for every ball during the 90 minutes.

“After that, we will see what the result is.”
