Bafana Bafana’s injury woes could get worse with Dean Furman and Kamohelo Mokotjo set to miss the 2019 Afcon qualifier against Nigeria due to injury.

Stuart Baxter’s side did themselves no favours in their bid to qualify for next year’s continental showdown as they were held to a 0-0 draw by lowly-ranked Seychelles, a week after thumping them 6-0 in the first-leg clash.

Heading into the clash against the Islanders, Baxter’s side were hit with a number of injury withdrawals. Baxter called on the services of Thamsanqa Mkhize, Thembinkosi Lorch and Gift Links to replace injured trio Thapelo Morena, Vincent Pule and Sibusiso Vilakazi respectively.

This added to the fact that France-based duo Bongani Zungu and Keagan Dolly are set to be sidelined for a few months after sustaining injuries while on duty for Amiens and Montpellier respectively.

The latest bit of concerning injury news for South Africa is that of Furman and Mokotjo.

SuperSport United captain Furman, who was set for his 50th cap in the clash against the Super Eagles, has been sidelined with a torn shoulder joint and has undergone surgery which will see him miss at least three months of action.

Brentford midfielder Mokotjo is in a similar spot of bother, after picking up an ankle injury in his side’s 1-0 loss to Norwich.

Mokotjo’s manager Thomas Frank revealed that his client would have to undergo a scan to see the full extent of his injury.

Bafana need nothing but a draw or a victory in their clash against Nigeria.
