Japan took control of Group A in the men’s football at the Olympics after a 2-1 win over Mexico, while South Africa lost 4-3 to France in the group’s other game.
Despite taking the lead on three separate occasions, South Africa suffered a 4-3 loss against France in their second game at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics to end their hopes of qualifying for the knockout stages.

South Africa U23 national team coach David Notoane has named a 25-member squad to participate in a tournament in the United Arab Emirates against Brazil, Korea and Argentina. The tournament will take place from 5-11 June.
