The PSL Footballer of the Year looked all set for a dream move abroad when The Seagulls tabled a record offer believed to be in the region of R50-million.

However, negotiations were said to have come to a standstill after Masandawana reportedly demanded a higher asking price for the Bafana Bafana star.

This resulted in Tau going awol in a bid to secure his move abroad, in addition to the Premier League side tabling a take-it-or-leave-it offer.

In the latest development, Sundowns club owner Patrice Motsepe has instructed management to finalise the deal with Tau’s suitors.

A statement released on Sundowns’ official website has revealed that Tau, his agent and Patrice Motsepe have smoked the peace pipe, with the club’s president giving his blessings to the striker for a move to Brighton.

‘Mamelodi Sundowns is pleased to announce that the president of Mamelodi Sundowns Dr Patrice Motsepe gave instructions to the management to finalize the deal with Brighton & Hove Albion FC (Brighton) after Percy Tau and his agent came to see him and apologised for disclosing confidential information to the media and for Percy Tau not reporting for training,’ Sundowns confirmed.

The Brazilians could potentially earn up to R65m from the deal with add-ons included, which would shatter the South African transfer record for a local player.

Tau would be the latest Sundowns player to ply his trade in a top five European league after Bongani Zungu and Keagan Dolly, both of whom play in France’s Ligue 1.
