Everton played hosts to a visit from Middlesbrough in the Premier League on Saturday as Gareth Barry starred in a fine overall display.

Barry was key to his side’s ultimately comfortable win as he helped regulate the midfield battle. The veteran also scored an important goal to put his side ahead in the tie for the first time – a crucial shift in momentum that went a long way to breaking Boro’s resolve.

The goal came following a deflection, as Barry was quick to compose himself before guiding the ball home for a goal to celebrate his 600th appearance.

According to SportsClub’s Opta-powered Matchcentre stats, Barry made 81 touches of the ball in his 89 minutes on the pitch while he also completed 55 of his 69 attempted passes.

The Englishman scored with his only shot of the match, while defensively he completed two tackles for his side and made one important clearance. Barry also won six of his nine personal duels as he and his side outfought Boro and proved that they wanted the victory more.
