Zesco United striker Jesse Were has become the subject of interest from Premiership outfit SuperSport United, according to a report.

The Kenyan star exhibited his talent in his side’s recent 3-2 aggregate loss to Mamelodi Sundowns in the Caf Champions League semi-finals, where he played the full 180-minutes.

The star has allegedly also alerted the likes of Egyptian side Al Ahly, who could rival SuperSport for the player’s services. The striker has also attracted interest from Bidvest Wits in the past and even trained with Gavin Hunt’s side last season.

‘Yes there is interest [from South African teams] but I can’t mention names,’ Were told KickOff.

‘But the at the moment my focus is with Zesco United. I have a contract with the club which I have to honour and offers can wait.’

The 27-year-old explained that he opted to join Zesco as the move presented an easier transition from his Kenta league side Tusker.

‘I did my part but the coach [Gavin Hunt] wanted someone who could pick up immediately. Coming from Kenyan league was going to be difficult,’ Were added.

SuperSport made a host of new signings ahead of the 2016-17 season but have yet to combine into a cohesive unit.

The side currently sit fifth in the Premiership having picked up five points from four matches.
