Chicago Fire FC head coach Gregg Berhalter has shared his thoughts on acquiring the services of Bafana Bafana defender Mbekezeli Mbokazi.

Mbokazi has ended weeks of speculation surrounding his future after finally joining the Major League Soccer side from Orlando Pirates.

The 20-year-old signed a contract with Chicago that will keep him at the club until 2029, with an option for the 2029-30 season.

The Bafana defender is expected to remain at Pirates until the end of 2025.

“We are excited to welcome Mbekezeli to the Club as we further strengthen our back line,” Berhalter told his club’s official website.

“In his young career, he has already shown high potential and proven himself to be a strong leader and competitor on the international level.

“We expect immediate impact and room to grow in the future.”
