Former Bafana Bafana star Steven Pienaar believes a move abroad would be a positive switch for Mamelodi Sundowns wing Keagan Dolly.

The 23-year-old appears to have taken his game to a new level under the guidance of Pitso Mosimane at Sundowns and given he is still young, he has plenty of room to improve yet.

Dolly allegedly attracted attention from Greek giants Olympiacos for his signature last transfer window but that offer was withdrawn following a contract dispute between the player and his current club.

Once that dispute is resolved, however, it is expected the player could leave Sundowns in a bid to further his career in Europe, with the January transfer window likely to bring about his departure.

Meanwhile, current Sunderland player Steven Pienaar has backed the proposed European switch.

‘If you are 20 and you are not playing in Europe, if you do get an opportunity to go when you are 22 or 23, I would say that you definitely have to take it!’ Pienaar explained, reports SoccerLaduma.

‘It will be good for him and it will be good for the national team. He will develop and get more used to the physical and the technical side of the game in Europe. So, for him, he will improve as a player,’ Pienaar concluded.

Dolly is likely to feature for Sundowns against Platinum Stars when the sides square off in the Premiership on Wednesday.

The action at the Loftus Versfeld gets underway from 19:30.
