Mamelodi Sundowns coach Miguel Cardoso was satisfied with his team’s performance against Richards Bay in the quarter-final of the MTN8.
The Brazilians secured a comfortable 4-0 victory over the Natal Rich Boys thanks to a brace by Iqraam Rayners, an own goal from Simphiwe Mcineka and a goal by Siyabonga Mabena on Sunday.
Sundowns have now advanced to the semi-finals of the competition, where they will take on Orlando Pirates in what is expected to be a mouth-watering clash.
Cardoso insists he wanted to start the game off strong and was happy his side did so after they took the lead 10 minutes into the match.
“We wanted to start strong in the match, considering that we were playing at home in front of our supporters and considering that we knew that the energy would not be the same throughout the match,” Cardoso told SuperSport after the game.
“So starting strong would be important, scoring for us would be important, and we wanted to get into a rhythm that would help us throughout the game.
“We eventually could manage the condition of the players and deal with the fatigue that probably would (impact) the players in a different way. So I think we achieved what we wanted in the end; it was a good performance tactically and technically.
“I think on a cold night, it was also a beautiful game for people that were watching.”
