Germany head coach Julian Nagelsmann has expressed his delight after his side secured their place in the knockout stages of the World Cup.

The German side came from behind to secure a 2-1 victory over Ivory Coast to secure their second victory in the group.

A double from Deniz Undav cancelled out Franck Kessie’s opening goal to claim the win at the BMO Field in Toronto.

Nagelsmann stressed that Germany must continue building momentum as they chase their lofty ambitions, adding that healthy competition for places in the starting line-up is benefiting the squad.

“We have high ambitions,” Nagelsmann said.

“The most important topic for us is to focus on the next step.

“This is exactly what we hoped for and I’m very happy for me team.

“I think that every player would love to be in the starting line-up, but I think he’s very happy as it is right now.”
