Argentina forward Julian Alvarez admits his side had to dig deep to secure the win over Switzerland and secure their place in the semi-finals of the World Cup.
The Argentinian side advanced to the last four after they secured a 3-1 victory over the Swiss side at the Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City, Missouri.
Lionel Scaloni’s side will now take on England in the last four when they meet at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium on Wednesday.
Álvarez insisting the reigning champions are now fully focused on winning their final two matches to retain the World Cup title.
“[I’m] very happy, above all. We kept trying until the end, things got difficult even though we had an extra man, the extra time…” Alvarez told FIFA.
“But well, we knew that if we kept going all together, the goal was going to come, and that’s how it was.
“Obviously we would have preferred to win it earlier, but we know it’s not easy.
“All the matches at the World Cup have been like that. And well, with two more to go, we’re going to go all out for it.”
